Every useful assistant gets better by learning you. Your preferences, your past decisions, the shape of your accounts, the way you like things handled. That accumulated context is the real asset. A product can choose differently. It can hold what it learns in an open format, readable without its own app, exportable whole on any ordinary day. That single choice changes the relationship. You stay because the tool earns it, not because leaving would cost you years of accumulated context.
Portability is a promise you can check
Trust is easy to claim and hard to prove. Portability is the version you can actually verify. If you can export everything your team knows, in a format you can open and understand, then the promise is real and inspectable rather than a line in a policy.
